For more than 50 years, Walkers’ Britain & Europe has been part of the fabric of active travel in the United Kingdom, across Europe, and beyond.

Founded in 1973 as Sherpa Expeditions, we were among the pioneers of both self-guided and guided walking holidays in Europe. From the very beginning, our focus has been on helping travellers experience the world on foot by connecting landscapes, cultures and communities through the simple act of walking.

Today, we continue to offer a wide range of self-guided inn-to-inn walking tours and guided small-group holidays throughout the UK and Europe. Our collection includes more than 20 British classics such as the Coast to Coast trail and Hadrian’s Wall Path as well as shorter immersions. Walkers can experience some of Europe’s most iconic and sought-after walking trails with us, including the Tour du Mont Blanc, the Dolomites, the lavender-lined routes of Provence, coastal hikes in Madeira, and the rugged walking trails of Ireland.

Over the decades, our leaders, local representatives and loyal travellers have helped refine every detail of our itineraries. The result is a set of meticulously crafted route notes and maps that make our self-guided holidays some of the most trusted and rewarding available. With one of the most experienced teams in the industry and decades-long partnerships with trusted hoteliers and local suppliers, we are uniquely placed to deliver walking holidays that run seamlessly and leave a lasting impression. In 2008 we joined the World Expeditions Travel Group, expanding our reach to offer more than 300 active itineraries across 25 European countries: from Spain to Greece, Italy to Germany.

In 2021, we rebranded as Walkers’ Britain, and in 2025, evolved to become Walkers’ Britain & Europe, a name that reflects our deep expertise across the entire continent and our enduring passion for exploring, one step at a time.
