This is a long distance footpath which opened in 2013 and represents a successful eco-tourism initiative to develop low impact tourism in a relatively untouched region of Portugal. On this hiking route, you’ll encounter traditional whitewashed fishing villages and spectacular seaside views.

The Alentejo and Algarve regions will reward you with wildflowers and butterflies. There are many opportunities to take a swim or a rest break and overlook the endless ocean.

Often family run, these charming hotels in the Algarve and Alentejo range from 2 to 4 stars and provide access to local living thanks to your hosts. There is often a swimming pool and en-suite facilities. The hospitality is generous and your hosts' local knowledge is invaluable. Where possible, we choose locations that add to your experience of walking in Portugal.

Guesthouses and B&Bs

These are family-owned or run accommodations. Rooms with en-suites generally have a shower but no bath due to space. There may be a separate room with a bath tub. Hosts in the Algarve and Alentejo help add to your hiking experience in the regions.
