Traditions of a bygone era are still alive and well in the rustic villages found throughout Spain. Many of our authentic travel experiences are found well away from the major cities and tourist centres. The best way to discover the true essence of these quintessential Spanish experiences is on a cycling or walking holiday. Spain's architectural heritage of many centuries of Moorish (Moroccan) rule is still strong in Andalucia, notably at the Alhambra of Granada and among the flat-roofed white-washed villages and ancient irrigation channels of the Alpujarras.

The Spanish mainland is blessed with many dramatic walking areas including that of Aragon with its high (Alto) canyon lands and forests. Rugged and still remote Catalonia, with its lively cosmopolitan capital Barcelona and the nearby dramatic rock pinnacles of Monserrat is another fantastic region to explore on foot or by bike. In Catalonia you can go on an interesting cycling tour through the ancient volcanic ridges of Garrotxa and onward to the lively historical city of Girona. This forms the southern flank of the Pyrenees, which at its eastern end terminates abruptly at the Vermillion Coast on the border with France. If mountains are your thing, then one of our Pyrenees walking holidays will be perfect for you.

In the far south of Spain, the flanks of the Sierra Nevada are the backdrop for a hiking tour in the Alpujarras, an area of undulating walks that has not quite shaken off its Moorish influence after 700 years. An easier walking holiday explores the delights of the little visited Sierra de Aracena in the far south-west.

Part of Spain are the Mediterranean Balearic islands, where there is fine walking in the Sierra Tramontana of Majorca. Enjoy hiking the fantastic mountain and coastal paths, sometimes high above the sea. You will be able to visit Soller, Deia and Valldemosa, full of their own historic and literary associations.

In the Atlantic Ocean are the Spanish sub-tropical Canary Islands including Tenerife and the beautiful volcanic island of La Gomera, which has inspired several of our walkers to revisit its dramatic hillsides.

Local Knowledge of Spain

We place great emphasis on researching, planning and crafting innovative itineraries in Spain to ensure you get the very best experience out of your trip. We believe relationships are important and have been working with many of our hoteliers and local suppliers for years. This means that they know exactly what our travellers expect.

Travel with experienced mountain guides

Our guided walks in the mountain regions of Italy are led by bilingual, experienced professionals who know the region well. Every guide is first-aid trained and carry appropriate communication devices with them in case of an emergency.

Reducing waste

Our Waste Management Policy encourages our travellers to take their own reusable water bottles, coffee cups and reusable stuff sacks to avoid single use plastics. In the mountains of the Pyrenees and Mont Blanc our local partners reduce the amount of packaging taken on tour and ensure all waste is carried out from refuges that do not have road access to help dispose of it properly.

Supporting local

In the regions that we travel tourism is the main source of income for many local people. We support them by only working with local family run hotels and suppliers so your money supports the community that hosts you.

Paddock to Plate

The paddock to plate across Europe is one we encourage by choosing to work with accommodations that source produce from local farms. This provides you with fresher meals and ensures your money directly assists local economies.

Visas

Visas not required for citizens of Australia, Canada, USA and New Zealand for up to 90 days in a period of 180 days for all Schengen countries (see https://tinyurl.com/lkho3qg for countries part of the Schengen). Please ensure your passport is stamped on arrival in the Schengen area. For all other nationalities and for longer stays in countries covered by the Schengen Agreement (Australian New Zealand, Canadian and US passport holders), please contact the relevant embassy. Stays of longer than 90 days in the Schengen area require a long stay visa for the country you are spending most time in. However long stay visas are unlikely to be issued unless there is a valid reason (eg. studying in country). Unfortunately we cannot assist in obtaining visas for long stays due to individual country visa requirements.

Please contact us if you would like to obtain a quote for your trip duration.

We suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

Money and valuables should always be stored safely when travelling. Keep your passport with you at all times and do not leave it in your main luggage. You will need it to change money and check into hotels. Where safety deposit boxes are available, we recommend that you use them. Keep jewellery and valuables to a minimum.
