Seemingly isolated in the eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus has been at the cockpit of western history for thousands of years, notably during the medieval crusades, when it acted as a launch pad for the crusaders. These days crusades are led by the waves of tourists who arrive to enjoy the popular seaside resorts, but inland a few kilometres, an older World prevails. When you go hiking in Cyprus, discover sleepy villages, farms and forests with fabled mountain views. You will find in this a natural, unhurried people who are proud of their ancient associations. Legend has it that Aphrodite, the goddess of love, brought her lover Adonis to the beautiful Akamas peninsula. When walking in Cyprus, you get to experience the land of the Greek gods.

Cyprus is split three ways: the northern part of the island is under Turkish control, the south is Greek-speaking, Orthodox Christian, while Britain, formerly the colonial power, retains two large ‘sovereign base areas’ in the south.

We focus our walking in the beautiful Troodos Mountains and on the Akamas Peninsula. Your walks will provide a mix of rugged landscapes and spectacular scenery along with cultural visits and interaction. These are diverse hiking days through forests, valleys and along the coast.

Personal Experience in Cyprus

Our team have been walking in Cyprus for over 4 decades. We are passionate about the island of Cyprus, active holidays and delivering exceptional service. Combined, we’ve travelled to virtually every corner of the UK & Europe and bring a multi-disciplined, multicultural and whole-hearted love of all things travel.

Reducing waste

Our Waste Management Policy encourages our travellers to take their own reusable water bottles, coffee cups and reusable stuff sacks to avoid single use plastics. In the mountains of the Pyrenees and Mont Blanc our local partners reduce the amount of packaging taken on tour and ensure all waste is carried out from refuges that do not have road access to help dispose of it properly.

Supporting local

In the regions that we travel tourism is the main source of income for many local people. We support them by only working with local family run hotels and suppliers so your money supports the community that hosts you.

Paddock to Plate

The paddock to plate across Europe is one we encourage by choosing to work with accommodations that source produce from local farms. This provides you with fresher meals and ensures your money directly assists local economies.

Trip reviews

The Troodos Mountains and Akamas - 11 Days

Rating:

This was a very rewarding trip. Beautiful scenery, great locations, rich mix of history and landscapes. I loved it. Also big shout out to Philios, the local contact - I made the choice to come at a hot time of year because of my schedule and he adjusted for early starts and shortened walks on some days, really excellent service.

Walking in the Troodos Mountains

Rating:

Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed my recent walking holiday - The Troodos Mountains and Akamas. Your help in making the arrangements initially are much appreciated and your local agent was also very helpful - please pass my thanks. He kept in touch, adjusted taxi pick up times and generally made sure all was well.

Where to Go
The ancient Baths of Aphrodite

Get away from bustling beach resorts and explore the island’s unspoiled landscapes—lush vineyards, peaceful orange groves and rugged forest-clad mountains, and a spectacular coastline of sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters

Hike through the timeworn landscapes of the Troodos Mountains

Fall in love with the beaches, grottoes and nature trails of the Akamas Peninsula

Visit the Baths of Aphrodite, a shady natural pool that was the mythical bathing spot of the Goddess of Love

Discover the island’s rich history in ruined cities, ancient monasteries and timeless traditional villages

Weather
Agios Georgios Church near Sotira village

In June through to September some people may find it uncomfortably hot in the lower-lying areas for walking, but making early starts can help to alleviate the effects of the heat.

For this reason we have introduced a winter program operating from November through to March that avoids the higher areas and concentrates on the areas west of the Troodos Mountains where the weather is much better. The entire period is normally mild with some cold and wintry spells and limited rainfall, mainly in December to February. Nights are cool, especially on the plateau.
