You can’t see all of Italy in a week – but if you like to be active in your travel, this guided trip comes impressively close. Blending ancient roads, rugged coastline, and local food experiences, it’s made for engaged travellers keen to explore Italy beyond the usual highlights. Start your journey in Rome with a guided cycling tour along the Appian Way, one of the oldest roads in Europe. Far from the crowds, you’ll pedal through peaceful countryside lined with cypress trees and ancient Roman villas and aqueducts – relics of an empire that once connected the entire Mediterranean. Heading south to the legendary Amalfi Coast, discover on foot coastal trails that wind through clifftop villages and terraced lemon groves. Your base is Bomerano, a quiet village perched high above the sea and right on the Path of the Gods – one of Italy’s most iconic walks. Each day is packed with natural and cultural highlights: hike the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, take a boat to the island of Capri, and walk the timeworn streets of Pompeii. You’ll also enjoy a lunch at a family-run vineyard, visit a limoncello producer, and find time to relax by the water or with a post-hike espresso. With expert guidance, seamless logistics, and just the right blend of activity and indulgence, this is the Italy walkers dream of – immersive, scenic, and refreshingly real.

Make your own way to central Rome, where you'll meet your guide at our conveniently located hotel in the early evening. We’ll gather for a welcome briefing to go over the week’s itinerary, get to know the group, and answer any questions about the journey ahead. After the briefing we’ll enjoy a group dinner at a local restaurant, where you can sample regional flavours and start soaking up the vibrant Roman atmosphere. Overnight in Rome.

Meals:  D

This morning we swap footpaths for cobblestones as we explore the legendary Appian Way by bike – one of the oldest roads in Europe and a lasting symbol of ancient Rome’s engineering brilliance. Our ride follows a specially designed route through the Appian Way Regional Park, taking in ruins of Roman villas, quiet countryside, and stretches of original basalt paving. Along the way, you’ll pass historic landmarks and get a close-up look at Rome’s impressive aqueduct system, with several ancient aqueducts still standing proudly across the landscape. In the afternoon, we return to central Rome, where you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace – whether it’s visiting a favourite monument, relaxing in a piazza, or enjoying a gelato in the late afternoon sun. Dinner is not included tonight, giving you the chance to choose from Rome’s endless selection of trattorias, osterias and pizzerias – your guide will be happy to recommend a local favourite.

After breakfast, we board a high-speed train to Naples (approx. 1.5 hours), then meet our driver for a private transfer to the slopes of Mt Vesuvius. From the trailhead, we set off on a scenic hike to the crater rim, where you'll take in sweeping views across the Bay of Naples and peer into the still-smoking volcanic caldera. It's a dramatic reminder of the eruption that buried Pompeii in 79 AD. After the walk, we visit a local winery for a well-earned lunch and wine tasting, sampling regional varietals grown in the mineral-rich volcanic soil. In the afternoon, we transfer to Pompeii for a 2-hour guided tour of this extraordinary archaeological site. Walking the preserved streets, you'll gain a deeper understanding of daily Roman life frozen in time by volcanic ash. Our day ends with a scenic drive up into the hills to Bomerano, a peaceful village perched high above the Amalfi Coast. After check-in, we’ll enjoy a group dinner featuring local flavours. Overnight: Bomerano Distance: 4km/2.5mi, Ascent/descent: +200m/656ft, -200m/656ft

After yesterday’s travel, today eases into a slower rhythm on foot, as we explore one of the hidden gems of the Amalfi Coast – the Monte Lattari range. We set off on a scenic ridge hike, following a trail that gradually climbs through quiet hills and terraced landscapes. At the top, we’re rewarded with panoramic views stretching across the Amalfi coastline, the Isle of Capri, and the Sorrentine Peninsula – a stunning spot for a relaxed picnic lunch surrounded by nature. Back in Bomerano, we visit a small local producer to taste traditional limoncello, made with the fragrant lemons the region is known for. In the evening, get hands-on with a pizza-making workshop, learning how to craft an authentic Neapolitan-style pizza before enjoying your creation fresh from the oven. Overnight: Bomerano Ascent/descent: +600m/1980ft, -600m/1980ft

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning we take a local bus down to Amalfi, once a powerful maritime republic and home to the Amalfi Tables – the oldest maritime legal code in the world. From here, we begin our walk through the scenic Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills), a lush, shaded trail lined with waterfalls, lemon groves, and the ruins of old paper mills that once powered Amalfi’s historic paper industry. Our path leads us uphill to the elegant hilltop town of Ravello, perched high above the coastline with sweeping views of the Mediterranean. There’s time to explore this peaceful village at your own pace – perhaps visit the gardens of Villa Cimbrone or Villa Rufolo, or simply enjoy a gelato in the piazza. On the return walk, we pass through the charming village of Atrani, often considered one of the most authentic and least touristy spots on the coast. From Amalfi, we transfer back to Bomerano in the late afternoon. Dinner tonight is at your leisure – with plenty of local restaurants and trattorias in the village to choose from. Overnight: Bomerano Ascent/descent: +350m/1155ft, -350m/1155ft

Meals:  B,L

This morning, we board a hydrofoil to Capri (approx. 20 minutes), the famed island retreat known for its natural beauty, elegant villas, and dramatic sea cliffs. Upon arrival, we set off on a scenic walk to the Grotta di Matromania, a vast natural cave once used for ancient Roman rituals. From there, we follow a picturesque path lined with flower-filled gardens and hillside homes to the Terrazza di Tragara, a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Faraglioni rock formations – Capri’s iconic sea stacks – and Monte Solaro, the island’s highest peak. There’s time to soak in the scenery and enjoy the relaxed island atmosphere before returning by hydrofoil to Amalfi, where a private transfer brings us back to Bomerano. Dinner and overnight stay in Bomerano Ascent/descent: +300m/984ft, -300m/984ft

Meals:  B,L,D

Today’s walk is a fitting finale to your week on the Amalfi Coast. We set out on the legendary Path of the Gods, an ancient clifftop trail that once connected shepherds and traders between villages. The route from Agerola to Positano winds along terraced hillsides and limestone cliffs, offering breathtaking views over the Tyrrhenian Sea and the coastline far below. Descending into Positano, you'll have time to explore this picturesque fishing village, known for its pastel-hued houses, narrow laneways, and artisan boutiques. In the afternoon, we travel from Positano to Amalfi by boat, offering one last chance to admire the dramatic coastline from the water (weather permitting). If sea conditions don’t allow, we’ll travel by local bus. Dinner and overnight stay in Bomerano. Ascent/descent: +300m / 990ft, -900m / 2,970ft

Meals:  B,L,D

After breakfast there will be a group transfer to Naples airport or train station, where the trip concludes.
